On July 14th, the unveiling ceremony of the Xidian University-Dr. Comfort Smart Wearable Joint Laboratory was successfully completed. Shen Man, Director of the Science and Technology Achievement Management Office of Xidian University, Yang Gang, Director of the Xidian University-Dr. Comfort Smart Wearable Joint Laboratory, Ma Guorong, Project Manager, and representatives from Dr. Comfort’s Elderly Industry Development Co., Ltd., attended the ceremony. The establishment of the “Smart Wearable Joint Laboratory” aims to advance the development of smart wearable technology and research new technologies. It will actively implement the “Smart Elderly Shoes” project, applying advanced smart technologies to elderly smart wearable devices through university-enterprise cooperation to achieve the transformation and application of research outcomes.

As a pioneer in the elderly shoe industry, Dr. Comfort upholds the mission of “caring for the elderly” and deeply understands user needs, striving to provide more professional products for the elderly. Based on research data showing that approximately 500,000 elderly people go missing in China each year, Dr. Comfort plans to incorporate electronic science and technology into shoe products to create specialized “Smart Elderly Shoes.” With the policy support for promoting the transformation and upgrading of the real economy, Dr. Comfort hopes to collaborate with well-known universities to establish a technology innovation platform integrating industry, academia, and research, aiming to share and complement research resources.
Xidian University, as a key domestic institution, has high academic reputation and research strength in the field of electronic science and technology, with notable labs such as the “Key Laboratory of Ultra-High-Speed Circuit Design and Electromagnetic Compatibility” and the “Frontier Interdisciplinary Research Institute.” Additionally, Professor Yang Gang’s team has rich research experience in areas such as communication technology, mobile communication networks, IoT intelligent rehabilitation devices, home care platforms, and smart devices.
During the ceremony, Professor Yang Gang introduced the development plan of the joint laboratory, aiming to combine psychological detection technology with Dr. Comfort’s elderly shoe products. This integration will enable real-time monitoring of the psychological status and movement data of the elderly, providing more comprehensive, personalized, and precise health protection for the elderly.

As of June 2023, Dr. Comfort’s Elderly Shoes has obtained a total of 335 patents for elderly shoes, including invention patents, utility model patents, and design patents in aspects such as the shoe upper, sole, and shoe accessories.
In addition to independent research and development, Dr. Comfort continues to explore an integrated innovation system that combines production and research, actively promoting university-enterprise cooperation projects. In 2023, Dr. Comfort’s Elderly Shoes also established a partnership with Soochow University to jointly build the “Multifunctional Nanomaterial Elderly Shoe and Clothing Application Collaborative Innovation Center.” The aim is to tackle technological challenges in applying new materials to elderly shoes and clothing, interpreting collaborative innovation in production, academia, research, and application, and leveraging technological advancements to enhance the professionalism and comfort of products.
